Dr. Player
Dr. Susan Player, DC, DABCI, DACBN was born in Detroit, MI, one of five girls, and was aware from an early age that she wanted to do something in healthcare, but just wasn't sure for a long time what that would be. While in high school she took a part-time job as a receptionist in the office of Dr. George Goodheart, DC, the doctor who originated the technology known as Applied Kinesiology. During Dr. Player’s teen years, up until and including the time she started working at Dr. Goodheart's office, she had intense allergies for which she took antihistamines twice a day from April through November year after year, as well as almost daily headaches. As she was working at Dr. Goodheart's office, she came to have a much broader understanding of natural medicine and how people can be helped without drugs or surgery. For Dr. Player it was a life changing revelation. She chose to become a chiropractor. Because Dr. Player’s initial exposure to chiropractic was such a broad application as Dr. Goodheart and his associates applied in the office, she is not what would be considered a traditional chiropractor in that she has never done only spinal manipulation. Her understanding of chiropractic has always been that it relates to the entire body and that diet, nutrition and other types of corrections are beneficial. While attending National College of Chiropractic, Dr. Player studied and became certified in Applied Kinesiology (AK). Upon graduation she accepted a position in Milwaukee, WI. It was during this time that she studied with Dr. Alan Beardall, the developer Clinical Kinesiology. This method of evaluation and treatment allows the practitioner to find things that are causing problems in a person’s body that are frequently not detected by traditional medicine and helps the practitioner determine the body’s priority of treatment. The desire to continue to find the true underlying cause of a patient's physical situation spurred Dr. Player on to do a three and a half year post-doctorate program as a chiropractic internist as well as becoming certified as a nutritionist. A very special part of Dr. Player’s practice is her work with pregnant women and children. It thrills her to help parents make changes that can positively impact the next generation. Another major focus of Dr. Player’s practice addresses allergies. She was trained in a technique based upon NAET. By combining that with Dr. Beardall's information, she was able to create an amazingly unique and effective method. “My own estimate is that 90-93% of the allergies are corrected completely, so that people are then able to eat and/or be exposed to that item without having repercussions. I have found that underlying allergies are a key point in MANY people's unresolved long-term health problems.” In September 1987, Dr. Player married her husband, Paul, and soon thereafter they moved to Clearwater. She opened her solo practice in January 1989. After years of friendship with Dr. Piro, she joined the Piro Clinic of Natural Medicine in October 2009. Dr. Player and Paul have two children, their son Eli and daughter Sasha. They also have a dog Sweetie, as well as a menagerie of birds and fish, a guinea pig and a hamster. They are lucky to have water access near their home and the entire family enjoys kayaking, canoeing and rowing. They also live near the Pinellas Trail and enjoy using it regularly.Professional Experience
